Winter Skiing and Snow Boarding at SIX Local Areas

Flock Hill Lodge is the perfect place to enjoy a winter ski holiday as it is within very close proximity to four ski fields: Broken River, Craigieburn, Mount Cheeseman and Porter Heights.

Porters

Porters rises to just under 2000 metres and offers spectacular views of the Southern Alps. The skiing and boarding at Porters is suitable for all abilities - from first timers to experts. Advanced skiers and boarders will love two of New Zealand's legendary runs; Bluff Face and the awesome Big Mama. Specialist grooming offers supreme piste skiing as well as great intermediate terrain park, while the off piste terrain is excellent for the more adventurous.
Porters is only 20kms to the access road from Flock Hill Lodge.

Mount Cheeseman

The Mount Cheeseman ski field is a sunny east to southeast basin with open, rolling terrain. With great beginner and intermediate slopes, Mount Cheeseman is perfect for learners and families. Two T Bars give easy access to well groomed gentle terrain and the Learners Tow is located right beside the main lodge. Mount Cockayne offers great off-piste conditions and the face holds snow well. If you are keen on a taste of back country, it is little effort to drop into Tarn Basin at Mount Cheeseman to get some fresh lines. You must check in with ski patrol if you intend on heading out of bounds, as Tarn Basin is not patrolled. The grooming staff also make an awesome pipe and series of jumps in their terrain park; check it out.

Craigieburn

Craigieburn Valley Ski Area, located in the heart of New Zealand's Southern Alps, has achieved cult status amongst NZ's hottest skiers. Steep deep and cheap. Three high capacity rope tows service a vertical rise of 500m. Terrain at Craigieburn Valley is varied, exciting and challenging with the infamous 600m vertical descent of Middle basin, which is often compared to a heli skiing experience, accessible by a short traverse from the tow. Wide open powder bowls, steep narrow chutes.
The beginning of the access road to Craigieburn is only a five minute drive from Flock Hill Lodge.

Broken River

Broken River is a club field with 3 alpine bowls of varied rolling terrain. A goods lift carries your gear from the car park while you walk 30 minutes through native beech forest to the ski area. There is a canteen selling snacks and drinks. The terrain at Broken River consists of a large open basin serviced by 5 electrically driven rope tows. The highest point is 1820 meters and the total vertical is 420 meters with over 300 hectares of accessible terrain. Grooming is carried out on the learner/ intermediate slopes and easy access to the back basins is available for more experienced skiers.

Temple Basin

Temple Basin is a small ski resort with just 4 ski lifts but it does boast a respectable 430 metres (1410 feet) of vertical descent. Temple Basin has 640 acres of terrain over 22 pistes. Temple Basin is best suited to intermediate skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for beginners and advanced skiers.

Mount Olympus

Mount Olympus is a Club run field set in a wide south facing basin offering a variety of runs on uncrowded slopes. The southerly aspect of Mount Olympus means that it tends to trap more light powder than other nearby fields. Mt Olympus has 60 skiable hectares with varied terrain offering challenges for skiers of all abilities.
