HHH Horse trekking

Flock Hill has thousands of acres of incredible riding country and our horse trekking guide Heather Harrington is ready to take you for treks of various lengths from a pony ride for the kids, to a multi-day high country ride into some of New Zealand's most breath taking landscapes.

Heather uses the Natural Horsemanship method of training and riding her team of horses. This method focuses on encouraging the horse to obey because it wants to rather than through fear or pain. Natural horsemanship helps to nurture the personalities and characteristics of each individual horse. She is fascinating to talk to about the philosophies behind her horse-handling and is always keen for a good yarn..

The horses are steady without being broken-down dude ranch nags, and they are very much individual personalities.
You will be introduced to your horse by name and told of its habbits and characteristics, and then Heather will give you a lesson on natural horsemanship riding before you embark on your horse trek. However long your ride you will enjoy spectacular scenery in the peacefulness of the high country. There will be superb photo opportunities along the way so be sure to bring your camera!

Please bring suitable footwear, sunglasses, sunscreen, long trousers, wet weather gear (if needed) and a bottle of water and snacks.
Flock Hill Lodge can organize a packed lunch to take on your journey but please give the staff notice before departing. For safety requirments we do supply helmets for your journey.
